'or2' is an installation by london-based practice orproject (francesco brenta, christoph klemmt,
and laura micalizzi), located at the entrance of the italian cultural institute as part of the
london architecture festival. constructed out of photosensitive polygonal segments,
the single surface roof form has the ability to turn opaque pink in the sun or translucent white
in the shade. photovoltaic cells are also integrated into the polygonal segments, transforming the
installation into a lighting device at night by releasing the energy collected during the day.
'or2' is based off the studio's original project 'or' which was exhibited at milan design week 2008,
where it took photoreactive technology to an architectural scale, filtering a whole courtyard with
light or shade depending on the time of day.
